Merano Wine Festival opened its doors for the 27th time to bring us gourmet wines, locally grown food and hearty experience. The charming city of Merano or Meran (to the Austrians), nestled in the mountains of South Tyrol, became a capital of the good taste for four days, where high quality Italian and international winemakers showcased their finest products.

This year program was filled with numerous tastings, show cookings and lectures, but the focus was on organic and biodynamic wine. Another part of the festival was held in Gourmerarena, which gathered all the best of produce from Italy and further, with culinary specialities, craft beers, spirits and liqueurs.

In the area dedicated to Italian regions we discovered delicious sicilian tomatoes “datterino”—undeniably the most sweet tomatoes presented at the official gourmet selection. Agricoladargenio brought sun and their family farm olive oil. The extra virgin olive oil of Agricola Dargenio comes from farm land’s olives. Taste of Puglia within the Coratina cultivar olives, known for their intense taste.

The festival concluded with a stellar event—“Champagne Catwalk”. Chef Karl Baumgartner of the restaurant Schöneck in Southtyrol was entertaining guests with cooking on stage of the spacious Kursaal house, accompanied by Marguerite Guyot Champagne.
